For health resort visitors
Augustów has been a famous and valued summer resort since the inter-war period. Visitors rave about the properties of the air and natural conditions here. The town sought the status of a health resort already in the 60s. In December 1970, Augustów received partial privileges of a health resort and the “Budowlani” sanatorium first started to accept patients in 1976. In October 1993, the city acquired the status of a health resort.
The Augustów Forest and the surrounding lakes and rivers create exceptional climatic conditions. It is especially recommended to people suffering from respiratory, cardiovascular or rheumatic conditions. The specific micro-climate, rich in essential oils and phytoncides as well as high quality therapeutic mud, creates ideal conditions for treating all kinds of ailments, including rheumatism and musculoskeletal system conditions.
Augustów is also famous for its mineral water. The first "Augustowianka" was produced on 22 July 1972. The water is extracted from one of the deepest wells in Poland (482 m), from the very heart of the Augustów Forest. It is distinguished by its unchanged chemical composition, including as many as seven elements with therapeutic values. "Augustowianka" has an exceptional flavour and nutritional elements. It is well-recognized by locals as well as connoisseurs from all over the country and abroad.
