Ice sailing
In winter, instead of traditional sailing, you can try your hand at ice sailing. The Augustów Forest is one of the coldest regions in Poland, which is why ice on the lakes usually appears in the first half of December and stays even until April. This creates perfect conditions for ice sailing. It is becoming more and more popular way of spending time in winter. In Augustów it has been practised for several decades. Here, the first Polish instructor training course was organized in 1937.
Ice sailing is an interesting alternative for both avid sailors and those who enjoy winter sports such as snowboarding and skiing. The maximum speed reached on ice yachts is 150 km per hour.
