Hiking
Lovers of hiking and Nordic walking certainly will not be disappointed while wandering among the pines of the Augustów Forest. The forest is one of the largest Polish forests, with an area of 114 thousand ha in Poland. The Augustów Forest is dominated by coniferous trees: pine and spruce, which are perfect purifying filters and enrich the air with oxygen, essential oils and phytoncides. Such exceptional conditions encourage active leisure on numerous hiking trails. You need to take a pair of comfortable shoes, a camera and a raincoat. In late summer and autumn, you may need a basket for mushrooms.
If you do not feel like taking independent walks through the wilderness, an ideal place for Nordic walking is walking/bike path on the Netta River and Necko lake, as well as the one on the Bystry Canal. The total length of all hiking and bicycle roads within the town is approximately 10 km.
FOREST EDUCATIONAL TRAILS up to 5 km:
The KOZI RYNEK (Goat Market) forest educational trail leads through the picturesque forest of the 'Goat Market' reserve, which is a part of the Augustów Forest. The reserve covers area which, in the years 1863-1864, was the place where the largest insurgent units were stationed in the Augustów region.
A monument commemorates those events. On the path there are information boards that help you navigate through the route. The path has a length of 1.8 km and is easy to travel.
The KALEJTY forest educational trail runs through the nature reserve on Długie Lake and along the shore of Białe Lake. The trail begins and ends in the forest settlement in Przewięź on Białe Lake. The total length of the route is 3.3 km. The route is easy, ideal for hiking with children.
The DO POMNIKA LEŚNIKA (To the Forester Monument) forest educational trail leads along a picturesque footbridge among the reeds and diverse plant communities bordering the forest and lakes. On the route, there are two places for longer rest, with a designated place for a bonfire. You can also visit the restored section of fortifications, i.e. trenches. The main point of the path is a monument dedicated to the memory of the Foresters of the Augustów Forest. The start of the path is in Studzieniczna, at the building of Nature Education Centre. The length of the path is 1.1 km.
HIKING TRAILS from 20 to 70 km:
The Augustów - Mikaszówka walking trail, with a length of about 62 km is marked in yellow. It runs along Białe Lake, Długie (Kalejty) Lake, Busznica, Blizno, Blizienko, Tobołowo, and Brożane, among beautiful forest specimens.
Route: Augustów – The Kalejty Lake Reserve – Strękowizna – The Powstańce Range – Danowskie (Blizno Lake) - Tobołowo – Tartaczysko – Frącki – Okółek – Dworczysko - Brożane - Rygol - Mikaszówka.
The Augustów Canal walking trail, with a length of 40 km is marked in green. The trail runs along the lakes included in the system of the Augustów Canal, and through the woods of the Augustów Forest.
Route: Augustów – the Napoleon Route - Wojciech - Studzieniczna - the Sirocco camp site – the Stara Ruda Reserve – Czarny Bród - the Sucha Rzeczka weir - Gorczyca - Płaska – the Paniewo lock – the Perkuć Reserve - Binduga Jazy - Mikaszówka.
The Augustów - Mikaszówka walking trail, 55 km long, is marked in blue. The trail, rich in primeval nature, allows walkers to get to know the nature reserves, and to visit places commemorating the January Uprising of 1863 and the Second World War. On the way you can see the settlements of wooden houses and locks on the Augustów Canal - Sosnówek and Mikaszówka.
Route: Augustów - Sajenek – the Stara Ruda Range – the Kozi Rynek Range – the Królowa Woda Range- Hanus - Gruszki – the Sosnówek lock – Mikaszówka.
The Augustów - Raczki walking trail, 30 km long, marked in blue. The most interesting place on the route is the Holy Place. There is a chapel from 1990, a number of wooden and stone crosses and a wooden religious sculpture. There are many legends connected with this mysterious and extraordinary place.
The route runs through: Augustów - Szczebra – The Młynisko Range – The Holy Place Range - Jaśki - Dowspuda – Raczki – Pluszkiejny.
The Danowskie - Sucha Rzeczka walking trail with a length of 19.7 km, marked in black. It runs directly on the shores of lakes Blizno, Tobołowo, and Serwy. Along the way, there are places of national remembrance.
Route: Danowskie - Kopanica - Tobołowo – the Podserski Las hamlet - Serski Las - Serwy - Sucha Rzeczka.
